About this station
Sukh Urdu is organised by language rather than by genre. If it was sung, written or spoken in Urdu, it belongs here: playback from the black and white era through to this year, the pop and rock made by Urdu speaking bands here and abroad, and the readings, letters and recitation that radio in this language was built around. Presenters work in Urdu and explain the harder words without making a lesson of it. The ghazal as a form has a station of its own at Sukh Ghazals, and concert qawwali belongs to Sukh Indie and Sufi; here they turn up the way most listeners first met them, inside a film. If you grew up hearing Urdu at home and never hear it on air, this is the station.
